Joint Workshop in Berlin: The Euro Crisis

On January 27th, 2012, 17 Brandt School students made the trip to Berlin to attend a workshop on the euro crisis, which was jointly organized by the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin), the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy, the Free University Berlin and the University of Applied Sciences for Engineering and Economy Berlin. After a two-day seminar in Erfurt in early December, which consisted of presenting and discussing papers with course instructor and department head within the Thuringian Ministry of Economics, Jakob von Weizsäcker, the workshop embodied the title of the course: “Tackling the Euro Crisis.”

At the event, some of the most renowned and influential German economists, among them Prof. Dr. Bert Rürup, former chairman of the German Council of Economic Experts, debated interpretations of the state of affairs and the future architecture of the euro in front of a crowd of around 50 students, researchers and reporters.
